Home décor retailer At Home Group has announced that CEO Brad Weston will retire after overseeing a significant transformation period for the company, with current executive Aaron Rose promoted to president and chief commercial officer as the retailer prepares for its next phase of growth.

Weston will remain CEO through the end of June before transitioning into an advisory role to assist with succession planning and leadership continuity. The company’s board has launched a search for a permanent chief executive.

The leadership changes come as home furnishings and décor retailers continue navigating shifting consumer spending patterns, elevated competition, e-commerce pressures, and changing housing market dynamics.

Board Chairman John Eck credited Weston with stabilizing and repositioning the business during a pivotal period.

“Under his guidance, the Company strengthened its foundation, established a clear strategic direction, and positioned the business for long-term growth,” Eck said.

At Home operates 229 stores across 39 states and competes within the highly competitive value-oriented home décor and furnishings segment, where retailers are increasingly focused on merchandising differentiation, private-label expansion, supply chain optimization, and omnichannel customer engagement.

Rose’s expanded responsibilities signal the company’s emphasis on integrated merchandising and operational execution. As president and chief commercial officer, he will oversee merchandising, marketing, digital operations, sourcing, planning, store operations, and supply chain functions.

The broad scope of the role suggests At Home is prioritizing tighter coordination between product strategy, customer experience, and operational performance as it works to strengthen brand positioning and drive growth.

“We continue forward with a focus on elevating the At Home brand and strengthening our connection with customers,” Rose said.

He added that the company’s strategy centers on “differentiated product, compelling value, and an enhanced experience” designed to help consumers personalize their living spaces.

The leadership transition reflects broader trends across the retail sector, where companies are increasingly elevating executives with merchandising, digital commerce, and operational expertise as consumer behavior becomes more fragmented and value-sensitive.

Home décor retailers in particular have faced a more volatile environment following the pandemic-era home spending boom. Companies across the category have since contended with softer discretionary spending, higher freight and sourcing costs, inventory management challenges, and slower housing turnover.

At Home has attempted to differentiate itself through large-format stores, expansive assortments, and a value-oriented pricing model aimed at consumers seeking affordable home personalization products.

The company said its strategic focus remains centered on strengthening customer engagement, improving merchandising relevance, and building long-term brand momentum as it searches for its next CEO.
